Should the chef and the cooks wear different jackets?
It is not essential, but making the hierarchy visible contributes to order in the kitchen. Keeping the same jacket style and using a different piping colour, buttons or name and title embroidery for the chef is the most practical solution. That way team unity is preserved, and in an open kitchen guests can easily recognise the chef.
